Alexander Romanov is a well-known Moldovan mixed martial artist and freestyle wrestler who currently competes in the Heavyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). As of March 2023, he was listed as #15 in the illustrious UFC heavyweight rankings. He also boasts a staggering career record of 16-2.
Introduced to physical sports at a young age, Romanov was just seven years old when he started training in freestyle wrestling. He represented Moldova’s national team on the World stage on four occasions, as well as at the European Wrestling Championships eight times. He also won a bronze medal at the World University Championships in 2016. After being trained in MMA by a Muay Thai coach, he quickly established himself as a top-level fighter after winning 11 consecutive bouts as part of the Eagles Fighting Championship in Moldova, where he became the heavyweight champion. After joining the Ultimate Fighting Championship in 2020, he stormed through the rankings after winning five consecutive matches against big names such as Juan Espino, Jared Vanderaa and Chase Sherman. He won a coveted Performance of the Night award in his bout against Marcos Rogerio de Lima in 2020.
