Swedish mixed martial artist Ilir Latifi competes in the heavyweight division in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, having also competed in wrestling matches.
Latifi grew up surrounded by wrestling, and started training in the sport from a young age. He competed in amateur wrestling contests such as the 2001 Nordic Championship Greco-Roman Championship where he won a gold medal and the 2005 Swedish National Light Heavyweight Greco-Roman Championship where he took home a bronze. He won a gold medal at the 2003 ADCC Submission Fighting European Championships and competed in the 2009 edition of the contest before turning his attention to mixed martial arts. During the first few years of his career, he built up a reputation for being a formidable newcomer, winning his first bouts and breaking the 7 fight winning streak of Tony Lopez. Latifi became the first Superior Challenge Light Heavyweight Champion in 2012 and the following year was snapped up by the UFC. He has worked with the promotion ever since, establishing himself as a strong competitor and putting in a series of great performances in the ring. He has won Performance of the Night once, and in 2019 he moved up to the heavyweight division.
