Ina Garten transitioned from a government budget analyst to a renowned culinary expert, authoring best-selling cookbooks and hosting the popular Food Network show ‘Barefoot Contessa’. After serving as a budget analyst for nuclear energy policy for Presidents Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter at the White House Office of Management and Budget, Ina Garten made a significant career change in 1978, purchasing the 400-square-foot specialty food store, Barefoot Contessa, in Westhampton Beach, New York. The business rapidly expanded, necessitating a move to a larger location and the opening of a second store in East Hampton by 1985. The expanded Barefoot Contessa attracted notable clientele, including Steven Spielberg, and operated successfully for two decades before Garten sold the store to her employees in 1996.
Most recently, Garten published her cookbook ‘Go-To Dinners’ in 2022 and launched the new series ‘Be My Guest’ on Discovery+ and Food Network the same year. Looking ahead to 2024, she is set to release her highly anticipated memoir, ‘Be Ready When The Luck Happens,’ further solidifying her status as a multifaceted culinary icon.
