American actor and director, Joel David Moore has appeared extensively in feature films and is well-known as a leading director.
After gaining a BA from Southern Oregon University and participating in the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Moore moved to LA to pursue his career in acting. Moore’s film debut came in 1996 when he appeared in Foxfire. It, however, wasn’t until 2004 that Moore landed his first significant role when he starred as Owen in DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story. Since then Moore has gone on to appear extensively in films, including American Hustle, Grassroots, Divine Access and Cut Throat City. In 2009 Moore took on the role of Dr. Norm Spellman in the ground-breaking sci-fi film Avatar, a part Moore is resuming in the upcoming Avatar 2 & 3. Of his TV acting roles, Moore has made several guest appearances in series including Boomtown, Sabrina The Teenage Witch and Six Feet Under. From 2004 – 2005 he also appeared regularly in the NBC series, LAX and more recently appeared in My Name is Earl, Last Man Standing, American Housewife and Agents of SHIELD.
In 2007 Moore made his directional debut with the psychological thriller Spiral. He has since gone on to direct the 2016 comedy-drama Youth in Oregon and 2018 dark comedy Killing Winstone Jones. Of his other work, Moore has also appeared in several music videos, including Fall Out Boy’s, Beat It and Katy Perry’s, Waking Up in Vegas.
