German men’s eight rower, Johannes Weissenfeld is both a World and European rowing champion. He is also a 2020 Olympic games qualifier.
A professional rower since his teens, competing internationally, Weissenfeld won his first gold medal at the World Rowing Junior Championships, during 2011 in the UK. Since then he has gone on to take home medals at rowing cup and championship events around the world. Having gone from strength to strength throughout his career, It was in 2017 that Weissenfeld alongside his teammates in the German men’s eight team became world-renowned after they won gold at both the European Championships in the Czech Republic and the World Championships in Florida. The team has continued performing as the best in the world, winning a further two consecutive gold medals at the European Championships during 2018 in Scotland and again during 2019 in Switzerland. Repeating their success at the World Championships Weissenfeld and his teammates also won gold during 2018 in Bulgaria and 2019 in Austria. Honoured to be part of such a successful men’s eight rowing team, Weissenfeld is now a three-time European and World rowing champion.
Looking ahead, Weissenfeld plans to continue adding to his growing gold-medal collection. Following his extremely good performance as part of the men’s eight team competing in the 2019 World Championships, Weissenfeld has qualified to represent Germany as part of the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympic Games.
