Scottish footballing icon – John Collins, is a former midfielder and professional football coach. When performing in Scotland, he won the Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup. Outside of Scottish football, he won Ligue 1 with Monaco and the Football League Championship with Fulham.
Collins started his blossoming career with Hibernian. He played for Hibs for six seasons, making his debut at the tender age of 17. He went on to appear 195 times for the club, scoring 21 goals. During his successful Hibs stint, he was named the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year, showcasing the raw talent that he possessed. Due to Collins’ obvious ability, he signed for Celtic in 1990, becoming the club’s first million pound player. By the end of his successful spell at the mega club, he scored 55 goals in 273 appearances. In an interesting move, Collins went from Scotland to Monaco. He provided the club with instant success, winning the French Championship and reaching the semi-final of the 1997–98 UEFA Champions League, defeating Manchester United in the process. Later on in his career, Collins enjoyed spells at Everton and Fulham.
The Scot went into coaching after a glittering playing career, one of the highlights of his second career so far would be becoming assistant manager at his beloved Celtic, showing that his deep understanding of the game is highly sought after. Because of his impeccable knowledge of football, Collins has been seen giving his views as a pundit on Sky Sports. Collins’ on screen charisma has built him a loyal fan base, making him an attractive personality for many broadcasters.
