John Epping is one of four people on the Canadian Curling team, Team Epping; together, they hold the title of second best curling team in the world. Individually, he’s ranked second on the World Tour Ranks. He is his team’s skip, as well as a curling coach and consultant at his business, Epping Consulting.
Epping’s success started early; he was one of the best junior curlers, and in 2004, he brought home gold from the Ontario Junior Championship. Shortly after, he was decorated in gold again after the 2006 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship, and won the 2007 Provincial Mixed Curling Championship. In 2008, he won his first national title, qualifying his team for the 2009 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials. It wouldn’t be long before Epping took on the role of skip, himself, creating the legendary Team Epping, and earning another Grand Slam at the 2012 Players’ Championship: a win that qualified him again for the 2013 Olympic trials.
For his third Grand Slam title in 2015 (his second title as a skip), Epping won the Meridian Canadian Open, where he made 100% of his shots, and his team went undefeated 6-0. And throughout 2018, he competed in the Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Olympic Trials, won the Provincial Championship, won the Ontario Tankard, and competed in his first ever Tim Hortons Brier, where he earned a bronze medal. Still in 2018, Team Epping won the Canadian Beef Masters, making this his fourth major Grand Slam, also earning them the Wild Card in the 2019 Tim Hortons Brier.
In 2019, Epping played the international stage: after winning the Canada Cup, his team qualified to represent Team Canada at the 2020 Continental Cup with five other Canadian teams. Once reaching these heights, he was asked to be a brand ambassador for Lulu Lemon.
