About

Jonathan Kolia Favreau was born in Queens, New York, on October 19, 1966. He attended the Bronx High School of Science and later Queens College, before moving to Chicago in 1988 to pursue comedy, performing at improvisational theaters like ImprovOlympic. His early career included bit parts in films like “Rudy” (1993), where he met Vince Vaughn, and a role on “Seinfeld” (1994) as Eric the Clown. Favreau’s breakthrough came in 1996 with “Swingers,” which he co-produced and wrote, starring alongside Vaughn. This film helped establish both actors’ careers and defined their early on-screen personas. He also appeared in “Friends” (1997) as Pete Becker and “Rocky Marciano” (1999).

Favreau transitioned into directing with “Made” (2001), a project that reunited him with Vince Vaughn. His directorial success expanded with the popular comedy “Elf” (2003), starring Will Ferrell. A significant turning point in his career was directing “Iron Man” (2008), which launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He also directed “Iron Man 2” (2010) and continued to be involved as an executive producer and actor, playing Happy Hogan, in numerous Marvel films, including “The Avengers” (2012), “Iron Man 3” (2013), and “Avengers: Endgame” (2019). Favreau later achieved critical and commercial acclaim for directing Disney’s live-action adaptations of “The Jungle Book” (2016) and “The Lion King” (2019), showcasing his expertise in CGI and motion capture.

More recently, Favreau has been heavily involved with the “Star Wars” franchise. He is the creator, executive producer, and writer for the Disney+ original series “The Mandalorian” (2019–2023), which has gained widespread popularity. He has also served as executive producer for its spin-off series, including “The Book of Boba Fett” (2021–2022) and “Ahsoka” (2023), and is set to direct and write “Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu” (2026). His production company, Golem Creations, is behind many of these projects, reflecting his fascination with the intersection of technology and storytelling. In 2019, he was named a Disney Legend, and in 2023, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
