Jonathan Scott, born John Ian Scott on April 28, 1978, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, embarked on a diverse career path from an early age. His passion for entertaining began at seven years old with improv and small theatre productions. By age 10, he was making his own magic props and later performed professionally as an illusionist in Las Vegas, even joining the Vancouver Magic Circle and the International Brotherhood of Magicians. His early acting roles included appearances on notable television shows such as “The X-Files” in 1994 and “Breaker High” in 1998.
Alongside his twin brother Drew, Jonathan cultivated an early interest in real estate and entrepreneurship. While attending the University of Calgary for business management, and later the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology for construction and design, he and Drew purchased their first investment property at 18, flipping it for a significant profit. This early experience laid the groundwork for their real estate business, Scott Real Estate Inc., which they founded around 2004. Jonathan became a licensed contractor, while Drew became a licensed realtor, offering clients a “one-stop shop” for buying, selling, and renovating homes. This combination of hands-on experience and business acumen eventually attracted television producers.
The Scott brothers’ television career launched with the popular HGTV show “Property Brothers,” which began filming in 2009. The show’s success led to numerous spin-offs, including “Property Brothers at Home” (2014), “Property Brothers – Buying + Selling” (2012), and “Brother vs. Brother” (2013). In 2010, they rebranded their independent film production company as Scott Brothers Entertainment, expanding into multi-genre content production. Beyond television, Jonathan and Drew released two country music songs in 2015, “Hold On” and “Let The Night Shine In,” and authored bestselling books like “Dream Home” (2016) and “It Takes Two: Our Story” (2017). They also founded the lifestyle brand Scott Living, which includes home furnishings and design services, and are active philanthropists supporting organizations like St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and World Vision.
