Petrolhead Josef Newgarden is a professional race car driver, who competes in the IndyCar Series for Team Penske. He is the 2017 and 2019 IndyCar Series Champion, as well as the 2011 Indy Lights champion. He is the only American to win the prestigious Formula Ford Festival in England.
Born and raised in Tennessee, Newgarden found a passion for racing at a very early age. He started racing go-karts at the age of 13, and began competing at New Castle Motorsports Park in Indianapolis, going on to claim the KRA Junior Yamaha as well as the Junior TAG World Championship titles in the 2006 karting season. He then started his open-wheel racing career in the Skip Barber Racing School series, before moving up through various classes, including Formula Ford, Formula Palmer Audi, and the GP3 Series. By 2011 he had entered the Indy Lights series, securing the championship in his one and only season. In 2012, he secured a multi-year contract to compete professionally in the NTT IndyCar Series, claiming his first win at the 2015 Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama. He went on to become the Series Champion in 2017 and 2019.
