Josie Bellini, born in 1994, is a multidisciplinary creator celebrated for her digital art, particularly within the cryptocurrency and NFT ecosystems. A Chicago native, Bellini initially pursued a career in finance, studying at Lake Forest College and subsequently working at an asset management firm. Her experience in traditional finance led her to invest in Ethereum and Bitcoin, where she found the community and ethos more aligned with her interests. This shift prompted a deep dive into the structural workings and potential of digital economies, viewing them as a more transparent and equitable alternative.
Transitioning from finance, Bellini undertook coding courses at Northwestern University, which marked a turning point in her career. She began creating digital works for various startup blockchain and crypto companies across the United States. In 2017, Bellini released her first significant digital art piece, “Genesis,” which served as her initial “cryptoart” themed creation. This artwork quickly gained popularity within the crypto community, establishing her as a leading pioneer in the nascent cryptoart movement. The success of “Genesis” motivated Bellini to fully commit to advancing the adoption of Ethereum, Bitcoin, and the broader digital art ecosystem.
Following the viral success of “Genesis,” Bellini expanded her expertise into augmented reality (AR) creations and Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs). Her distinctive style and passionate approach have cemented her status as a respected figure in the NFT space. Bellini’s artwork, including well-known pieces like “Filter” and “Yours Truly,” has been exhibited globally at conferences and galleries, including events like Consensus, NFT NYC, and Satoshi Roundtable, and within virtual worlds and the metaverse. She has played a considerable role in integrating NFTs and digital art into mainstream awareness and continues to push their boundaries with projects such as CyberBrokers and MirrorWare. In 2021, her unique digital representation of “Genesis” achieved a price realised of USD 400,000 at a Christie’s online auction.
