Ever since his 2011 debut, Australia’s Julian Wilson has been one of the most highly regarded talents on the Championship Tour and is set to take his phenomenal talents to the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games.
Years before joining the elite competitive ranks, Wilson welcomed fame as a high-flying star in Quiksilver’s acclaimed video, ‘Young Guns III’. The video highlighted his electric combination of razor-sharp moves and aerial manoeuvres, which garnered global recognition and countless industry accolades such as Surfer Mag’s Breakthrough Performer award.
During Wilson’s freshman season on tour, he came third at Trestles and made the Finals in France. His #9 rank also saw him receive the ‘Rookie of the Year’ title. A future World Title seemed inevitable for the Australian athlete, but for reasons unknown, Wilson has remained in the back half of the Top 10 for the bulk of his career.
Nonetheless, he has an enviable five Championship Tour victories to his name, including a Pipe Masters victory in 2014 and two big wins in France, and on the Gold Coast in 2018.Wilson advanced his way into a World Title race in 2018 and finished at No. 2 on the Jeep Leader board, marking his best result in his career.
Following an excellent result at Pipeline in 2019, Wilson not only secured a top 10 result on the Jeep leader board, but provisionally qualified for the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020.
