The legendary sportsman Junior Spivey is a former professional baseball second baseman who most famously played for the Arizona Diamondbacks in the MLB and was part of the team who historically beat the New York Yankees to win the World Series in 2001. He also made the National League All-Star team in 2002.
Born and raised in Oklahoma, Spivey was a natural on the baseball diamond throughout his childhood and on into his college years, where he played for Cowley County College in Kansas. He was then selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 1996 amateur draft, and five years later made his major league debut for the team. He was with them when they famously beat the New York Yankees to win the World Series in 2001. In 2004 he was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers, and stayed with the side for a year until he was traded again, this time to the Washington Nationals.
In December 2005 Spivey signed with the St. Louis Cardinals and spend the entire 2006 season with the Memphis Redbirds. After a stint with the Bridgeport Bluefish of the independent Atlantic League in 2007, he signed a minor league contract with the Boston Red Sox and was assigned to the Pawtucket Red Sox. He then briefly signed a minor league contract with the New York Mets, before going on to spend the 2009 season playing for the Camden Riversharks of the Atlantic League and the Tucson Toros of the Golden Baseball League. He retired from the game in 2010.
