Kamryn Lute, a rising star in American speed skating, stands at the forefront of the sport’s new generation. Recognized for her exceptional talent, Team USA named her one of the two 2019 Short Track Junior Development Skaters of the Year, marking a significant milestone in her burgeoning career. In February 2020, still in her mid-teens, Lute made her mark on the international stage by competing in the Junior World Championships in Italy.
Introduced to the world of speed skating at the age of five, Lute’s journey began after witnessing the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. Inspired by Team USA’s Maame Biney, she set her sights on emulating her idols and making a lasting impact in the sport. Her dedication led her to the Short Track World Junior Championships in Bormio, Italy, in 2020, where she participated in the women’s 500m, 1000m, and the 3000m relay.
As a member of Team USA’s junior development program, Lute trains rigorously, balancing her commitment to the St. James sports club in Northern Virginia with her high school studies. Her impressive debut at the international level, finishing 35th in the 500m, 22nd in the 1000m, and contributing to the relay team’s 11th place finish, sets the stage for a promising future. With her eyes firmly set on the 2022 Olympics, where she’ll be a mere 17 years old, Kamryn Lute’s journey in speed skating is only just beginning, promising excitement and achievement in the years to come.
