Brandon Kim

Brandon Kim was born on August 30, 2001, in Fairfax, Virginia. He began his journey in short track speed skating at the age of 10, inspired by the electric speed of racers at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. He quickly developed his skills, becoming a member of the Potomac Speed Skating Club. His physical attributes, including his explosiveness, allowed him to pick up speed and make passes quickly on the ice. He adopted a “Korean style” training regimen, focusing on dry-land work such as jumps, imitations, and belts, which he believes significantly contributed to his technique.

Kim’s career progression saw him achieve early success at the junior level. In 2016, he earned the recognition of US Male Junior Developmental Skater of the Year for short track. The following year, in 2017, he competed at the World Junior Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Innsbruck, where he secured a bronze medal in the 3000-meter relay. He continued to develop his talent, eventually making the transition to the senior level and competing in various international events.

His dedication to the sport led him to significant achievements on the national and international stage. Brandon Kim emerged as the 1500m U.S. Champion, demonstrating his dominance in specific distances. He, along with Corinne Stoddard, shattered U.S. short track records and swept national titles at the U.S. Championships, securing their spots on the World Tour team. As a prominent figure in U.S. Speedskating, he has been featured in campaigns during AAPI Month, discussing his inspirations in the sport.
