Versatile American actor Kevin Symons is perhaps most famous for his roles as Dr Kevin Adams in the Discovery Kids sitcom Darcy’s Wild Life and, more recently, as Councilman Bill Dexhart in Parks & Recreation, a sitcom rated as one of the Top 100 of the 2010s by British newspaper The Guardian. He has also appeared in the likes of The West Wing, Mad Men, My Name is Earl, Desperate Housewives, and This is Us.
Symons began his long television career in the early 1990s when, aged 20, he had a part in a series called FBI: The Untold Stories. He began getting bigger roles in the early 2000s, and his first recurring role was that of Edward Bradley in long-running soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful during 2003. The following year, he joined the cast of Darcy’s Wild Life, a sitcom that ran on Discovery Kids in America and the Family Channel in Canada for two successful seasons, picking up various award nominations.
In 2009, after playing a variety of guest roles, Symons got his next big role, playing Councilman Dexhart in Parks & Recreations (also known as Parks & Rec), a satirical mockumentary set in the Parks Department of a fictional Indiana town. The show, which ran for seven seasons between 2009 and 2015, came to epitomise Obama-era America and was nominated for a plethora of awards. In the years, since Symons has maintained his reputation as a strong character actor who gets parts in some of the biggest television series around.
