2014 Youth Olympic Games Gold medallist Lee Woo Seok has progressed from Youth Olympic Champion to one of the top senior archers in the world. Woo Seok was only 17 years old when he won the gold medal for Korea at the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China in 2014, and since then he has become the second-highest ranked recurve man in the world, an eight-time Hyundai Archery World Cup Medallist and received the silver medal at the World Cup Final. Woo Seok now has his sights firmly set on the next Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Woo Seok comes from a sporting family and his father was a football player. He started archery when he was ten years old, and quickly developed a passion for the sport and dreamt of the Olympics. He rose to international prominence after winning gold at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games, and by 2015 he had shot his first senior Hyundai Archery World Cup stage in Medellin. Two years later he represented Korea at the Asian Archery Championships.
His big break at senior level came in the 2018 season when he came in the top two at the national selections alongside Kim Woojin, and he was awarded the Prize for Precision ranking – presented to the athlete who shoots the highest number of 10s throughout the year. Woo Seok has continued to deliver outstanding results, and the former Youth Olympic Champion is only just getting started as one of the best senior archers in the world.
