U.S. Olympic athlete and track and field superstar Lolo Jones has a diverse and intriguing history. Born in Iowa, she started out running track at high school, later moving to another with her coach to train more vigorously for the American teams. Not only does she regularly compete and win awards and NCAA titles in the 60 and 100 meter hurdle races, but also competes as part of the US national bobsled team.
Jones’ award-winning days began at Louisiana State University with 11 All-American wins. In the years since, she’s found national and international success at indoor hurdles championships, while competing in the Olympics in Beijing in 2008, London in 2012, and Sochi in 2014. Many other different competitions and championships have filled her years between then and now.
Jones has used her wins and popularity to help her home town high school with money for sports equipment, before donating to families trying to get back on their feet after falling victim to flooding. She now runs the Hurdles of Hope Foundation to help those in need.
Lolo Jones is an ever-present figure in American media. In more recent popular culture, she was one of the guests staying in the Celebrity Big Brother house for the popular reality TV show. She has posed for ESPN Magazine, played minor roles in the 2014 Nicolas Cage flick Left Behind, competed on Dancing with the Stars, and is now considered Twitter’s most popular track and field personality.
Although her popularity has allowed her to expand her repertoire in new and exciting ways, there is no doubt that her hard training and high level of skill in athletic endeavours have led her to the level of fame that she enjoys today.
