Allan Hawco

Allan Hawco was born on July 28, 1977, on Bell Island, Newfoundland, and was raised in The Goulds. He initially pursued business studies at Memorial University of Newfoundland before enrolling in the National Theatre School of Canada, from which he graduated in 2000. Post-graduation, Hawco established himself in various major theaters across Canada. In 2005, he co-founded the Toronto-based ‘Company Theatre’ with Philip Riccio to gain more creative control. His work in theater garnered critical acclaim, including multiple Dora Awards for the 2009 production of ‘Festen’.

Hawco gained widespread recognition for co-creating, show-running, writing, executive producing, and starring in the CBC television drama/comedy ‘Republic of Doyle’ (2010-2014). In this series, he played Jake Doyle, a private investigator. ‘Republic of Doyle’ aired for six seasons and achieved international distribution. Building on this success, Hawco’s production company, Take the Shot Productions, also produced the Netflix Worldwide and Discovery Channel Canada series ‘Frontier’, starring Jason Momoa, where Hawco served as an executive producer and acted as Douglas Brown. In 2018, he adapted Lisa Moore’s novel into the CBC series ‘Caught’, in which he also starred as David Slaney, served as showrunner, and executive producer.

His film credits include roles in ‘Love & Savagery’ (2009), ‘Closing the Ring’ (2007) with Christopher Plummer and Shirley MacLaine, Bruce McDonald’s ‘Weirdos’, and Paul Gross’ ‘Hyena Road’ (2015). Hawco also appeared as ‘Coyote’ in the Amazon Prime series ‘Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan’ (2019) and as Captain Donovan in the British-Canadian series ‘Departure’ (2019). His consistent work across acting, writing, and producing has established him as a significant figure in the Canadian entertainment industry, earning him multiple awards and nominations, including a Gemini nomination for Best Actor and an ACTRA nomination for Best Male Actor.
