Allan Hawco

Allan Hawco gained widespread recognition for co-creating, show-running, writing, executive producing, and starring as Jake Doyle in the acclaimed CBC television drama/comedy Republic of Doyle (2010-2014), a series that aired for six seasons and achieved international distribution. After graduating from the National Theatre School of Canada in 2000, Hawco established himself in major theaters across Canada. In 2005, he co-founded the Toronto-based ‘Company Theatre’ with Philip Riccio, seeking greater creative control. His work in theater garnered critical acclaim, including multiple Dora Awards for the 2009 production of Festen.

His significant contributions to the performing arts were further recognized with the Gascon Thomas Award from the National Theatre School in 2011, and an Outstanding Achievement Award from the Canadian Television Hall of Fame, also in 2011. Building on his early success, Hawco further solidified his standing in the industry by leading Republic of Doyle. Expanding his reach as a producer, Hawco’s production company, Take the Shot Productions, went on to produce the Netflix Worldwide and Discovery Channel Canada series Frontier (2016-2018), starring Jason Momoa, where Hawco also served as an executive producer and acted in the role of Douglas Brown across three seasons. In 2018, Hawco demonstrated his versatility by adapting Lisa Moore’s novel into the CBC series Caught, where he again took on multiple roles as star (David Slaney), showrunner, and executive producer.

He has several anticipated projects slated for release in 2025, including appearances in the films Saint-Pierre, Soul’s Road, and In Cold Light, continuing his prolific work across acting, writing, and producing.
