Lucas di Grassi is a Brazilian professional racing driver currently set to compete in the FIA Formula E World Championship for ABT Lola. Renowned for his impressive career, he became the FIA Formula E World Champion in the 2016–2017 season and has also achieved notable success in endurance racing, including three overall podiums at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and being Vice-Champion in the World Endurance Championship in 2016. Additionally, di Grassi was Vice-Champion in Formula 2 and won the prestigious Macau Grand Prix in 2005.
Born in São Paulo, di Grassi began his racing journey in karts at the age of ten, quickly making a name for himself in regional and national competitions. His car racing career took off in 2002 when he became the runner-up in both the Formula Renault 2.0 Brazil and Formula 3 Sudamericana championships. By 2004, he clinched two victories in the British Formula Three Championship and followed up with a win in the Euro Series and the Macau Grand Prix the next year.
In 2010, di Grassi made his Formula One debut with Virgin Racing, but after one season, he transitioned to a key role as Pirelli’s official tire tester, contributing to the development of next-generation tires. He then raced for Audi Sport Team Joest in the FIA World Endurance Championship, where he celebrated two victories and a second-place finish in 2016.
Since 2014, di Grassi has been a prominent figure in Formula E, securing thirteen victories and ultimately winning the 2016–2017 Drivers’ Championship. Beyond racing, he co-founded the eSkootr Championship in July 2020 and serves as its Sustainability Ambassador, emphasizing his commitment to environmentally friendly motorsport initiatives.
