Alano Miller earned widespread critical acclaim for his performance as Cato in WGN America’s series ‘Underground’ (2016-2017), a role which Daniel Fienberg of The Hollywood Reporter hailed, calling him ‘the best of the supporting escapees,’ and Neil Genzlinger of The New York Times describing his portrayal as ‘Fabulous.’ This breakout role led to his inclusion on The Hollywood Reporter’s Supporting Class of 2016. That same year, Miller co-starred in Focus Features’ ‘Loving’ alongside Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga, earning a 2017 NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture. Prior to this, he completed his Master of Fine Arts degree from Penn State University in 2008 and made his feature film debut in ‘All Wifed Out’ in 2012, followed by a co-starring role in ‘Wish You Well’ in 2013. Miller further solidified his television presence with a starring role as twins Roman and Aaron Zazo in The CW’s Golden Globe Award-winning series ‘Jane the Virgin,’ appearing from 2014 to 2018.
In 2016, he appeared in the Emmy Award-winning ‘B.A.N.’ episode of FX’s ‘Atlanta,’ playing the fictional talk show host Montague. His versatility extends to the big screen, starring as Evan Fisher in Ava DuVernay’s ‘Cherish the Day’ (2020) and Lacy in ‘Sylvie’s Love’ (2020), which premiered at Sundance 2020. Miller also served as executive producer on the short film ‘White Face’ in 2017, showcasing his talents behind the camera. Transitioning into more recent television projects, Miller took on a starring role as Sgt.
Looking ahead, Miller starred as ‘Client’ in the 2024 short film ‘The Flower’ and is set to appear as Brad Addis in ‘Law & Order’ in 2025, continuing to expand his diverse portfolio.
