Marcelo Vieira is a Brazilian professional footballer who is widely renowned for playing for Real Madrid and the Brazil national team internationally. Vieira has predominantly played as a left back, but also plays as a left-winger on occasions.
After winning a Campeonato Carioca with Fluminense in 2006 and being named to the Team of the Season at the young age of eighteen, Vieira signed with Real Madrid for an $8 million fee.
Since then, Vieira has made many achievements with the club and has won 22 trophies, including four UEFA Champions Leagues and five La Liga titles, establishing himself as a valuable and competitive player. He has been recognised on several occasions for his skill; he has been named to the UEFA Team of the Year, the FIFPro World XI and La Liga’s Team of the Season.
His Brazil debut was made in 2006 when he scored a goal against Wales, before making the 2008 Olympics squad and winning a bronze medal. He was also part of the 2012 Olympic team when the team won a silver medal. Vieira has proved himself within the Brazil team on the international stage, as part of the 2014 FIFA World Cup team and the 2018 FIFA World Cup team when he was named to the Dream Team for the second time.
