Moustachioed Matt Hamilton is an Olympic Gold medal winning curler who shot to fame in 2018 when Super Mario meme photos of him went viral on Twitter. He is a USCA Athlete of the Year, and has, to date, won a further eight Gold medals across the US Men’s Championships, the US Olympic Trials, the US Mixed Doubles Olympic trials, the US Mixed Doubles Championship, and the World Junior Championships. He won Bronze at the 2016 World Championships.
Wisconsin-born Hamilton began his incredible curling career in 2007 when he started playing for skip Jeremy Roe at the United States Men’s National Championships. In 2008 he also joined skip Chris Plys’s junior team, helping them to win the 2008 and 2009 National Junior Championship. Hamilton and Team Plys then represented the United States at the World Junior Championships in Sweden, going on to win Gold. Hamilton was also awarded with the 2008 Sportsmanship Award at the event. He continued to play for both teams successfully, and in 2014 won a Silver medal at the National Championship, his first men’s championship medal. That same year he joined Team Shuster, going on to have a number of medal winning seasons prior to the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. He had also won Gold with his sister, Becca, in the 2017 US Mixed Doubles Championship. Hamilton took part in the team trials and the mixed doubles trials (with his sister) for the Olympics, winning Gold in both. Team Shuster went on to win Gold at the 2018 Winter Olympics, a first for the United States in curling. Post-Olympics, Hamilton and Team Shuster have gone on to win the US Men’s Championships in 2019 and 2020.
Hamilton regularly connects with his legions of followers and fans through Instagram (as hamscurl), and Twitter, posting pictures and videos of his sporting life. He is also available for that personalised shout-out via the Cameo platform.
