Michael Klim is a former professional swimmer, who represented Australia at the World Championships and Olympic Games during his career.
Born in Poland, Klim went to school in Melbourne, at the University High School where he is now elite head coach of swimming. He first represented Australia at the 1994 Commonwealth Games, while he was still a teenager at high school. In 1996 he made his Olympic debut in Atlanta, winning a bronze in the 4 x 100m Medley Relay. He was named as Male Swimmer of the Year in 1997 by Swimming World Magazine, and went on to appear at the World Aquatics Championships in Perth in 1998. He didn’t let his home crowd down, winning four golds, two silvers and a bronze medals at the competition. Klim continued this winning streak at the 2000 Summer Olympics, setting not one but two new world records at the Games and taking home four medals. The following year he again appeared in the Australian relay team, helping secure another two gold medals for his country. After a few years out of the pool due to injury, Klim returned for the 2004 Olympics in Greece, appearing at the World Championships a year later and taking the final gold of his career at the World Aquatics Championships in 2007.
After retiring from the sport, Klim set up a skin care company called Milk and Co. He also works at the school he attended, as the college’s elite head coach of swimming.
