Mo Collins, born Maureen Anne Collins on July 7, 1965, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, began her career in improv and sketch comedy with Dudley Riggs BNW in Minneapolis. Originally interested in visual arts, she discovered her passion for performing after joining a comedy club in middle school, where her high school theater teacher encouraged her and gave her the nickname “Mo.” After attending an all-women’s Catholic university, from which she was asked to leave due to artistic mischief, she pursued improv professionally. She honed her skills at the Pleasure Island Improv Theater in Orlando and later returned to Minneapolis to perform in various theater productions.

In 1998, Collins relocated to Los Angeles, where she quickly joined the cast of “MADtv.” During her tenure from the 4th season (1998) through the 9th season (2004), she became well-known for creating memorable characters such as Lorraine and Stuart’s Mother. Following her departure from “MADtv,” Collins expanded her presence in both television and film. Her notable television appearances include recurring roles as scandal-wrangler Joan Callamezzo in “Parks and Recreation” (2009–2020) and Sarah Rabinowitz in seasons 4-7 of “Fear the Walking Dead” (2018–2022). She also played Starla in “Arrested Development” (2004–2005) and has made guest appearances on “Curb Your Enthusiasm” (2005, 2017) and “Grey’s Anatomy” (2023).

Collins has also contributed her voice to numerous animated projects, earning her first Emmy nomination in 2017 for her work on Netflix’s “F Is for Family” (2015–2021), where she voiced multiple characters. Her film credits include roles in “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” (2005) as Gina and “Knocked Up” (2007) as a Female Doctor. Beyond her acting, writing, and directing work, Collins is a recognized animal advocate. In 2011, she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST), and has since gone into remission, using her experience to raise awareness for the condition.
