Nick Offerman

Nicholas David Offerman was born on June 26, 1970, in Joliet, Illinois. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1993. In the same year, he co-founded Defiant Theatre in Chicago. During the mid-1990s, Offerman was active in the Chicago theater scene, working with companies such as Steppenwolf and Goodman. He also utilized his carpentry skills as a master carpenter for Steppenwolf. It was during this period that he became acquainted with Amy Poehler, a prominent figure in Chicago’s improv comedy community.

Offerman’s acting career expanded into television and film in the late 1990s and early 2000s, with minor roles in series like “ER” (1997), “The West Wing” (1999), “Will & Grace” (2001), “24” (2003), and “The King of Queens” (2003). A more significant role came as Randy McGee on “George Lopez” (2003–2004). His breakthrough arrived in 2009 with the NBC sitcom “Parks and Recreation,” where he played Ron Swanson, a deadpan, government-averse character. This role earned him critical acclaim, including the Television Critics Association Award for Individual Achievement in Comedy and two nominations for the Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

Following his success in “Parks and Recreation,” Offerman continued to expand his career across various platforms. He appeared in the second season of “Fargo” (2015), earning a Critics’ Choice Television Award nomination, and later won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his role in HBO’s “The Last of Us” (2023). His film credits include “21 Jump Street” (2012), “The Founder” (2016), and voice roles in “The Lego Movie” (2014) and the “Sing” franchise. Offerman has also authored several books, including “Paddle Your Own Canoe” (2013), and co-hosted the NBC reality competition series “Making It” (2018–2021) with Amy Poehler, receiving three Primetime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Host.
