Russian luge skeleton racer Nikita Tregubov has competed at two Winter Olympic Games, taking silver in 2018 in South Korea.
Tregubov was always a sporty child, and growing up he attended both karate lessons and football throughout his time at school. He took up luge skeleton racing when he was just 15, and immediately realised he had a natural talent for the fast paced, highly skilful sport. In 2014 he made his World Cup debut, taking two bronze medals at his first World Cup appearance, an impressive feat for someone who had only been training for 5 years. He also competed at the Winter Olympic Games in his home country, establishing himself as one of the nation’s most promising sportspeople. Tregubov gained more of an international reputation in 2016, with a bronze medal at the Bobsleigh and Skeleton European Championships as well as a podium finish at the World Championships. From there, this young athlete’s career really took off, with more World Cup medals over the next few years and a silver medal at the European Championships in Austria. He returned to the Olympics in 2018, this time taking home the silver medal for Russia and securing his position as one of the best skeleton racers on the scene today.
In 2019 Tregubov won his first World Cup gold medal in Latvia, and he now looks set for many for years of success on the ice.
