About

Nora McInerny was born in Minneapolis, attending DeLaSalle High School and graduating in 2001. She pursued higher education at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, completing her studies in 2005. Early in her career, McInerny gained recognition for her blog “My Husband’s Tumor,” where she documented her husband’s illness and subsequent death. This platform attracted 200,000 followers, establishing her as a voice on personal loss and grief.

Her experiences led to the publication of several books. In 2016, she released her memoir, “It’s Okay to Laugh (Crying Is Cool Too),” which further explored her journey with loss. This was followed by “No Happy Endings” and “Hot Young Widows Club,” both published in 2019. Her work continued to evolve with “Bad Moms: The Novel” in 2020, based on the 2016 film, and “Bad Vibes Only” in 2022, which addressed the concept of toxic positivity. In addition to her writing, McInerny became the host of the podcast “Terrible, Thanks for Asking,” which focuses on candid conversations about grief and other challenging emotions. The podcast operates under her company, Feelings & Co., which produces several podcasts dedicated to storytelling and empathy. In 2018, McInerny delivered a TEDWomen talk on grief, expanding her reach to a broader audience.

Beyond her media contributions, McInerny established the nonprofit organization “Still Kickin” in 2015. The nonprofit, named after a phrase from her late husband’s t-shirt, supported individuals facing illness, death, or other life difficulties by designating a monthly “Still Kickin Hero” who received proceeds from merchandise sales. While the nonprofit became inactive after 2021, McInerny also created the “Hot Young Widows Club,” a Facebook grief support group that has grown to include hundreds of members, including men.
