South Korean archer Oh Jin Hyek is an Olympic gold medal-winner, and one of the most successful and admired bowmen of the current era. The righthander has an extraordinary average bow of 9.45, has won 74% of his career matches, and has previously been ranked the No. 1 archer in the world. Jin Hyek has over two dozen gold medals from competing at international level and was named by World Archery as one of the Best Olympic Archers of All-Time.
Jin Hyek began training in archery in 1992, and went on to make his international debut in 1999, quickly garnering attention with his distinctive technique. Major success would come several years later, beginning with a string of gold and silver World Cup medals, before he scored gold in the men’s team event at the 2009 World Archery Championships in Ulsan. Further World Championship titles would follow, including in Turin in 2011, but Jin Hyek shot to international fame in 2012 when he won the individual gold medal in a hotly contested Olympic Games competition in London.
Following his Olympic success, Jin Hyek continued to make waves in international competition. At the Paris Archery World Cup Final in 2013, he notably scored the double-win of gold in the individual and the mixed team events, and went on to score his first major Indoor title when he took individual gold at the Indoor World Cup Final in 2017. Today Jin Kyek trains under coach Jang Young Sool, and competes with corporate team Hyundai Steel.
