Olivia Giacobetti is a renowned French perfumer who has created fragrances for the likes of Guerlain, L’Artisan Parfumeur, Diptyque, and Hermès. Famous for her use of fig in perfumery which she made popular as a note in the mid-1990s, she is also well known for her refined style and innovative creations. Her 1996 fragrance for Diptyque named Philosykos (inspired by the fig tree) became the line’s best seller, and her imagination shone through again with her 1999 scent L’Artisan Parfumeur Dzing!, a masterpiece inspired by the diverse aromas of Paris’s Cirque d’Hiver.
Growing up, Giacobetti was inspired by the world of fragrances from a young age, and her father Francis Giacobetti – a talented artist – influenced and encouraged his daughter’s creative spirit. Once the young perfumer had watched Jean-Paul Rappeneau’s film “Lovers Like Us” which features a perfumer she became fascinated with the art of perfumery even more, and soon began working for the legendary Annick Goutal as a teenager. Later she joined French company Robertet as an assistant perfumer before establishing her own company in 1990 at the age of 24, named Iskia. From then on she began to create bespoke fragrances for some of the world’s biggest perfume brands. In 2003 she launched her own independent line of perfumes, body products and candles named lunx, and opened her lunx boutique in Paris in 2016. Throughout her career she has helped shift recognition towards the “nose” behind perfumes, and has had a huge impact on the world of contemporary perfumery.
