Oscar “Ozzy” Lusth might be kindly described as a sucker for punishment. The reality TV star has appeared in no fewer than four series of Survivor, the legendary American game show where contestants must not only survive in isolated parts of the world, finding their own food and shelter, but also survive being voted off the show. He has also appeared on American Ninja Warrior and Playboy TV’s reality dating series Foursome. Unsurprisingly, he has built a large social media following, with over 85,000 fans across Instagram and Twitter.
Lusth was born in the city of Guanajuato, Mexico in 1981. As a toddler, he moved with his family to North Carolina, but eventually settled down and attended high school and college in California. After college, Lusth relocated to Los Angeles. 2006 proved to be his breakthrough year into television, as he appeared on both the first series of Playboy’s Foursome (in which he and three other singles shared a mansion for 24 hours) and Survivor: Cook Islands. He finished runner-up in the latter and was invited to appear on Survivor: Micronesia — Fans Vs Favourites in early 2008. Competing against 19 fellow Survivors, Lusth lasted just under four weeks before being voted out. The season was considered to be one of the best in the show’s history.
In 2010, Lusth appeared as a contestant on American Ninja Warrior but returned to Survivor the following year with South Pacific, where he won $100,000 for being the Sprint Player of the Season. He returned for a fourth (but perhaps not final time) in 2017 for Survivor: Game Changers, being voted out after three weeks.
