Growing up in the rough and often hostile suburbs of Western Sydney, Brad Kennedy AKA Pomara Fifth always stayed true to herself and never let the bullies and naysayers keep her down for long. Thankfully her amazing mother and four sisters provided a very open home environment which nurtured her love for performance and natural exuberance. Pomara also battled numerous medical issues at a very early age, making her the strong, determined and persevering human and performer she is today, as well as inspiring her to study nursing at Liverpool Hospital years later, all whilst leading a successful drag career.
The name Pomara Fifth was born from her childhood home address, no.5 Pomara close, a place she always felt comfortable to be her true self. 2014 marks the onset of Pomara’s drag career. It was her first night out in a club, and from the get go she was immersed in and fascinated by the performers on stage, telling herself she could do exactly what they’re doing. The superstar started dabbling in the art, and within no time was performing at numerous venues and events around Sydney such as the Lyric Theatre and Stonewall Hotel.
A mere two years later Pomara was named the face of Medibank Private for the 2016 Mardi Gras, as well as the Heart of Newton at the Newton Festival. In 2018, the now well established drag star worked for Netflix on their Mardi Gras float, as well as appearing in the Deicorp ad launching their siding Petersham. That same year Pomara received the Rising Star Award at the Drag Industry Variety Awards (DIVAs), solidifying her success and influence in the world of drag. Now with over 23.1K followers on TikTok, the drag superstar is taking the world by storm.
