NFL superstar Ray Lewis is widely considered to be the Baltimore Ravens’ finest ever player and one of greatest middle linebackers in the history of the game. Lewis is a 2-time Super Bowl champion and a Super Bowl MVP (Most Valuable Player), as well as a 2-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, being one of only 6 players to clinch the award twice. He was named an NFL All-Pro (the best player in his position over a given season) on 10 occasions and selected to play in the NFL Pro Bowl 13 times, being one of the few players in the history of the sport to play in a Pro Bowl in three different decades (1990s, 2000s, and 2010s).
Lewis made headlines in 2000 after pleading guilty to obstruction of justice in connection with the murders of two men. He served a 12-month probationary sentence. In 2014, Lewis appeared on the cover of the hugely popular EA Sports video game Madden NFL 2005. On February 3, 2018, the fifth anniversary of his final game, Lewis was inaugurated into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. He was chosen as the third-best linebacker of all time on the Fox Sports Net show The Sports List. In 2014, a statue of Lewis was unveiled in front of the Baltimore Ravens’ home, the M&T Bank Stadium.
Since retiring from the NFL, Lewis has worked as a pundit for ESPN and Fox Sports 1 and founded the Ray Lewis 52 Foundation, a nonprofit corporation which aims to give personal and economic assistance to disadvantaged youth. Lewis has been honored with a JB award (named in honor of CBS broadcaster James Brown) and the Act of Kindness Award for his work in the community.
