The versatile Ryan Pope is an actor best known for his role as Psycho Paul in all seven series of the cult BBC3 sitcom, Ideal. He has performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company in both the United States and the Far East, and starred in Ben Wheatley’s A Field In England, Ken Loach’s Looking For Eric, and Mike Leigh’s Peterloo.
Born and raised in Manchester, Pope grew up with a love for acting and performing. After graduating from Dartington College of Arts, his first break was to promote the Quadrophenia comeback tour by rock band The Who where his duties consisted of dressing as a mod and riding a Lambretta. He then joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1995. After that he was employed as a catwalk model for the Prada fashion house and then secured a role in the hit BBC series The Lakes in 1997.
Since then Pope has appeared in numerous productions, including City Central, Dalziel and Pascoe, Happiness, Shameless, Funland, Skins, Holby City, Ideal, Sharpe, Casualty, and Mount Pleasant, as well as roles in feature films such as Quadrophenia, Still Buzzin’, Velvet Goldmine, Looking for Eric, Elevator Gods, A Field in England, and United We Fall.
