Scott Nagy is a renowned American college basketball coach who is currently the head coach for Wright State Raiders men’s basketball team. Nagy’s success at Wright State has been marked by multiple postseason appearances and individual player honors, including numerous All-League selections and a Player of the Year award.
Nagy played college basketball at Delta State University and holds school records for most career games played and most assists in a career, season, and game. He then became a graduate assistant at the University of Illinois for two seasons before moving to South Dakota State as an assistant and then again from 1995-2016 as head coach. During Nagy’s tenure at South Dakota State, he led the team to multiple successes. The Jackrabbits had eight 20-win seasons in their first nine years under Nagy at the Division II level, and after transitioning to Division I in 2004, Nagy continued to improve the program. Since switching to Wright State in 2016, Nagy has continued to excel as a coach. He has been named the Horizon League Coach of the Year three times and has guided the Raiders to 20-plus wins in his first four seasons. He has also reached remarkable coaching milestones, including his 500th collegiate victory in February 2020, becoming the 61st active NCAA head coach to reach the 500-win mark.
Nagy’s coaching career has been marked by success on the court and a commitment to making a positive impact off the court for his philanthropic efforts. He coaches at least one game every season without shoes to support the charity Samaritan’s Feet, which distributes shoes to those in need worldwide. He was named the 2012 Barefoot Coach of the Year for his support of Samaritan’s Feet and raising awareness about its cause. Nagy’s coaching style, dedication to his players, and ability to achieve consistent success both on and off the court have made him a respected figure in the industry.
