The wonderful DeeJays Derek and Country music fans Haskins and Sean Powell are better known on air as Big D and Bubba, and their self-titled show is broadcast globally in over 177 countries through the American Forces Network (AFN). It is available on all United States military installations, as well as all ships at sea. In October 2021 WKDF Nashville became the new home station for the show.
They also produce The Big D & Bubba Weekly Podcast, a popular Comedy, Entertainment, & Lifestyle focused podcast centred around the lives of the members of the show, their families, and friends. The Big D and Bubba Show was the first morning show to win the CMA and/or ACM for National Broadcast Personalities of the Year.
Big D started on the airwaves when he was 14-years-old at a Christian radio station in Cookeville, Tennessee. By the age of 17, he was hosting his first talk show, which led to him doing mornings on an oldies station in the same city. He is also an Instrument Rated Private Airplane Pilot, and a big aviation buff.
Bubba was 14-years-old when he became a disc jockey at a local radio station in his hometown of Houma, Louisiana. He went on to use radio to travel the world and worked at stations in places such as Guam and Tokyo. He is also a qualified pilot.
Big D and Bubba regularly connect with their legions of followers and fans through Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, posting pictures and videos about their broadcasting life. They are available for that personalised shout-out via the Cameo platform, the proceeds of which benefit St Jude Children’s Research Hospital to fight Childhood Cancer. They also have a dedicated YouTube channel, bigdandbubba, and an official website, bigdandbubba.com.
