Seung-Min Kwon was born on August 31, 2003, in Daejeon. He began his short track speed skating career at the age of seven in Rockville, MD, joining the Potomac Speedskating Club. His talent was recognized early, as he was named Junior Development Male Short Track Skater of the Year by US Speedskating in 2019. This early acknowledgment set the stage for his progression in the sport, leading to his inclusion in the Short Track National Team from 2022 to 2023.
Kwon’s career has been marked by notable achievements on the international stage. In 2022, he achieved a 5th place finish in the 1000m event at the World Junior Championships. The same year, he further showcased his abilities by securing a 14th place finish in the 1000m at the World Championships in Montreal, QC, Canada. His performance at the 2023 World Junior Championships included a bronze medal in the 3000m Relay, along with a 17th place in the 500m and 62nd in the 1000m.
His dedication to the sport is evident in his consistent participation and results at various levels of competition. These achievements highlight his journey from a developing junior athlete to a recognized competitor in the challenging sport of short track speed skating, participating in events such as the World Championships and World Junior Championships.
