Shawn Neirynck

Robert Neirynck, better known as Young $hawn, is a rapper from Ghent, Belgium. He has more than 35,000 followers on Instagram @shawnneirynck. Neirynck created his distinctive style and persona while taking inspiration from idols like Trippie Redd, Shorline Mafia, XXXTENTACION, and many others. He chose the name Young $hawn since people frequently mistake him for being younger than he is.

Neirynck has said that XXXTentacion was one of his earliest influences, since he was one of the first rappers he knew that had an open mindset and wild melodies. So far in his career, the chief lesson he has learnt is to be careful about who to trust. He claims that as soon as he gained notoriety, many people wanted to feed off his table without having to put in any more effort. Thus, he doesn’t readily hand out his trust any more.

Neirynck’s favorite track to perform live is “Fucked Up”, because it is a hype track that makes people in the audience go crazy. He has said that he would most like to work with Trippie Redd, a rapper and singer from the US who is one of the most well-known figures in the SoundCloud rap community, which rose to popularity in the late 2010s. Neirynck believes that music is better when it comes from the heart. If he personally had to deal with any problem in his life, writing a song about it would be the simplest way for him to work through it.
