Stephanie Garcia is a renowned American athlete; she is a professional runner with a speciality in the 3000 metres steeplechase. She has achieved great success on the international stage, reaching the final of the 2015 IAAF World Championships in Beijing.
Born in Austin, Texas, she began running from a young age. She attended the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, and soon began competing at collegiate level. She qualified for the NCAA championships during all four years at university and came ninth in 2009. She started making a name for herself in the NACAC under-23 athletics competition. Establishing herself as one-to-watch on the track, she finished runner-up in 2010. She also came tenth at the USA Outdoor Championships in the same year. She has consistently achieved impressive personal bests and running times, in her first year of university she won the USA Championships with a time of 10:26:41.
Garcia’s international career in the 3000 metre steeplechase began in 2011, when she qualified for the 2011 World Championship team after finishing fourth at the USA Outdoors Championships. She soon made her mark in this higher level of competition, reaching the finals in 2015. Most recently, in the Gent Flanders Cup in Belgium, she achieved the fifth fastest time in the US, as well as achieving a new personal best. She is partnered with the brand New Balance, and is part of the WAALC Global Mental Health Alliance.
