Suleyman Atli is a Turkish freestyle wrestler who has competed at two World Championships and took gold at the 2019 European Championships.
Atli has always been a talented wrestler, and first shot to fame when he qualified to compete at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. He came first in the Olympic qualifying competition in his home country of Turkey, proving himself on a world stage and positioning himself as one to watch. In 2017 he took home the bronze medal at the Under 23 World Championships and in the same year won bronze again at the European Championships held in Serbia. From there Atli has really started to stand out as one of the leading young athletes in his field, with a bronze medal at the World Championships in 2018 where he was up against the best and most experienced competitors from around the globe. The following year was Atli’s best yet, as he won medals at three major competitions. The first was a bronze at the European Games in Minsk, followed by a silver at the World Championships. 2019 was topped off with a gold medal at the European Championships in Bucharest, proving that this wrestler really is at the top of his game.
With another silver medal under his belt at the 2020 European Wrestling Championships, Atli is well on his way to being one of the best in the world, with hopes for another Olympic appearance at the next Games.
