Decorated Japanese archer Takaharu Ferukawa has a string of international medals to his name, including an Olympic silver and an Asian Games gold. The righthanded archer has an impressive average arrow of 9.31, and a 63% win record. He has competed at four Olympic Games, and has represented his country internationally in both the men’s and mixed teams.
Ferukawa took up archery in 2001, and first competed on the international stage in both the team and individual events at the New York World Archery Championships in 2003. He made his Olympics debut in Athens in 2004, and returned to Beijing in 2008, but it was the London Games at which he made his mark and gained fans across the world of archery and beyond. He finished the competition’s ranking round with an impressive 679 points, ultimately advancing to the final and taking home the silver medal.
Following his Olympic success, Ferukawa went from strength to strength. He scored the gold medal in the Recurve category at the 2013 Asian Archery Championships, and landed Outdoor bronze in the individual event at the Copenhagen World Championships in 2015. At the Archery World Cup, Ferukawa has pocketed a host of medals, including three golds – at Shanghai 2014 and 2015 in the men’s team event, and at Antalya 2018 in the mixed team. In 2018, he scored his best-ever finish at an international multi-sport event when he won the mixed team event at the Jakarta Asian Games.
