Thane Maynard is the director of Cincinnati Zoo and the host of 90 Second Naturalist. His short podcast airs on American radios and sees Maynard offering snippets of information about animals in ninety second slots. Maynard is also known for owning the zoo where the gorilla, Harambe, was killed for attacking a child.
Maynard has been working as the director of Cincinnati Zoo for quite some time now, and his 90 Second Naturalist show has been running for the past thirty years. His work has been revolutionary for zoos everywhere, and his research has taught the world a lot about sustainability, breeding and conservation. As well as working for the zoo, he is a part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, which allows him to input his own research into how zoos today are run. He also assists the Margo Marsh Biodiversity Foundation from his place on the board of trustees, which is a non-profit focussed on aiding primates across the globe.
Maynard faced controversy over the killing of Harambe at his zoo after the gorilla was thought to be in a position to harm a child. However, Maynard maintains that his focus has always been on protecting animals, and was forced to act in order to save a child’s life. He has continued to show the world how much he cares for his animals, and has dedicated even more time and effort to gorilla conservation.
