Tim Howard is an American soccer hero and goalkeeper for Colorado Rapids in Major League Soccer (MLS), and also played for Premier League clubs Manchester United and Everton. Howard has enjoyed an extremely successful international career, and has played more than any other goalkeeper for the United States men’s national team, with 121 times between 2002 and 2017.
Howard’s career kicked off at the North Jersey Imperials, followed by a stint for the MetroStars where the young keeper began to attract the attention of Manchester United. The English Premier League team signed him in 2003 and Howard made the move to England, enjoying success with the team before heading out on load to Everton. Howard made a permanent move to Everton in 2007, and went on to make 329 appearances for the club, setting the club record for most league match clean sheets in a season in 2008-09. The charismatic goalkeeper became a firm favourite with Everton fans, and the club remains close to his heart.
Global stardom and recognition came for the goalie in 2014, when he electrified the world with his amazing performances in the FIFA World Cup in Brazil, making 15 saves in one match against Belgium, setting a World Cup record and becoming a viral sensation online, the hashtag #ThingsTimHowardCouldSave trending worldwide after the match. Howard is the most- capped goalkeeper of all time for the United States, and played in the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup as well as the 2010 and 2014 World Cups.
In 2014, Howard published his book The Keeper: A Life of Saving Goals and Achieving Them, which documents his rise to stardom and the psychological and professional challenges he has faced living with Tourette Syndrome and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
