Todd Haynes, born on January 2, 1961, in Los Angeles, California, developed an interest in art and filmmaking at a young age, creating amateur movies and paintings throughout his childhood. He pursued his passion by attending Brown University, where he majored in art and semiotics, and later earned an MFA from Bard College. Following his graduation, Haynes moved to New York City, immersing himself in the independent film scene. His early work, including the controversial short film “Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story” (1987), utilized dolls to recount the life of Karen Carpenter and gained attention at various film festivals.
