Tokyo Stylez

Mia Jackson, known professionally as Tokyo Stylez, was born on December 15, 1989, in Omaha, Nebraska. Her background includes both African-American and Native American heritage. During her childhood, her mother was absent for a period, and Tokyo assisted by styling her younger sister’s hair for school. By age 15, she had developed sufficient skill to begin earning money from styling hair in her neighborhood, serving high school students and family friends. This early experience in hair care formed the foundation of her career.

Stylez began her professional career by specializing in sew-in hair extensions before transitioning to wig making. Her first celebrity client was Tamar Braxton. Her career saw significant growth after Kylie Jenner discovered her work on Instagram, leading to a rapid expansion of her client base. She has collaborated with makeup artist Hrush Achemyan and hairstylist Jen Atkin. Tokyo Stylez gained wide recognition for creating wigs for Kylie Jenner, for whom she stated she crafted over 100 wigs. She is known for producing four to five wigs daily. Before her celebrity success, she made a custom wig for a high school friend with cancer for her prom, which later led her to make wigs for a cancer charity, and eventually for her own clients due to public demand. She uses human hair for all her wigs and personally tests each one for comfort and wearability. Her creations for celebrities can cost around $3,000.

In 2019, Tokyo Stylez opened the Touched by Tokyo Wig Boutique in Los Angeles, with plans to establish an international hairstyling company. She has made television appearances as herself on shows such as “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” and “Life of Kylie” (2017), where she was featured as Kylie Jenner’s personal hairstylist. Her television presence has expanded with roles in “Queen of Stylez” (2020) and “Wiggin’ Out With Tokyo Stylez” (2024). Stylez has worked with a broad range of high-profile clients, including Kendall Jenner, Kim Kardashian, Naomi Campbell, Beyoncé, Cardi B, Madonna, and Rihanna. In November 2019, she began her gender transition, documenting the process publicly.
