The 2 time Super Bowl winner is a true NFL champion, impressing the fans since his early school days. Tony Casillas played 12 seasons in the NFL from 1986 to 1998, setting records left right and center as he went. Born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the defensive tackle first showed his football prowess as an All-State player for Tulsa East Central High School.
Moving on to the University of Oklahoma, Tony’s star just kept on growing and shining brighter. In 1985, not only did he graduate with All-American honors and a degree in public relations, the sports star also did a clean sweep of all the most prestigious football awards. He received the Lombardi Award for being the nation’s top lineman, UPI Lineman of the Year, the Big Eight Conference Defensive Player of the Year, consensus first team All-American and first team All-Conference. Following this impressive performance it was no surprise to anyone that Tony was drafted second overall at the 1986 Draft by the Atlanta Falcons. 1989 saw his career truly take off, becoming one of the best defensive tackles in the league with 152 tackles. This is still a team record for the Falcons to this day. In 1991 Tony was traded to the Dallas Cowboys, where he heavily contributed to the teams back to back Super Bowl victories in 1992 and 1993, both times against the Buffalo Bills.
The football legend was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2004 and named College Defensive Player of the Decade for the 1980’s by the National Football Foundation. In 2008 Tony was also inducted into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame. Between 2013 and 2014 he was a host on the sports talk show Casillas & Company/Casillas & Zack.
