Former Chief Economist for Scotiabank Warren Jestin is a leading expert on the economies of Canada and the World. In demand as a keynote speaker thanks to his ability to simplify even the most complex issues making them understandable to everyone, he has delivered presentations and speeches to numerous audiences, from constituents to scholars. Jestin has featured in several publications in print and online including the Calgary Herald, Toronto.com, Financial Post and Reuters.com. Jestin travels the globe meeting experts and clients from the worlds of economics, finance and politics, keeping pace with the latest international developments in these areas.
Recently retired, Jestin joined Scotiabank in 1979 after earning a Master of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Guelph and his PHD in Economics from the University of Toronto. He stayed with Scotiabank for nearly four decades, rising to Senior Vice President and Chief Economist.
Jestin now serves on several advisory boards including the Markham Stouffville Hospital, The Learning Partnership, The Canadian Foundation for Economic Education and the Sobey School of Business at St. Mary’s University. He is also the Economist in Residence at the University of Guelph’s College of Management & Economics and was recently appointed the Vice Chair at the Vineland Research and Innovation Centre. Jestin has also advised the Toronto Board of Trade and the Canadian and Ontario Chambers of Commerce.
