Wayne Warren

Wayne Warren was born on June 12, 1962, in Cardiff, Wales. Prior to his darts career, he worked as a roofer. He began playing darts professionally in 1985, competing in both British Darts Organisation (BDO) and World Darts Federation (WDF) events. His early career saw him participate in various championships, including his first BDO World Darts Championship appearance in 2005. Over the years, Warren built a reputation for his consistent performance and a smooth throwing style, earning him the nickname “Yank” among fellow players and commentators.

Warren’s career progressed with notable achievements in the BDO circuit. He reached the quarter-finals of the BDO World Trophy in 2015 and the BDO World Championship in 2018. A turning point came in 2020 when, at the age of 57, he became the oldest player to win a world darts title by securing the BDO World Darts Championship. This victory made him the last BDO World Darts Champion before the organization’s liquidation and elevated him to the World Darts Federation’s number one ranked player. His prize money for this win was £23,000, which was the lowest since 1989 for a world champion, reflecting the BDO’s financial difficulties at the time.

Beyond his major title, Warren accumulated several other tournament wins throughout his career. These include the BDO Gold Cup in 2014, the BDO International Open in 2012, and the Antwerp Open in 2019. He also secured victories in the Romanian Classic and Slovak Masters in 2020, further cementing his place in the darts community. Warren is recognized for his dedication to the sport, continuing to make appearances on the darts exhibition circuit after his championship win.
