Zehra Fazal is a widely recognised American voice actress, who’s profile rose to recognition for playing the role of Nadia Rizavi in Voltron:Legendary Defender, as well as Halo in Young Justice: Outsiders. She is a respected voice actress; Greg Weisman, the co-creator of the latter, said “I wrote the role with her in mind”. In the film she lends her voice to Halo, as well as many other characters, proving herself to be a versatile actress.
Fazal was first known for her comedy before becoming a voice actress; she was renowned for often talking about Muslim identity in her comedy material.
Her one-woman comedy show, titled ‘Headscarf and the Angry Bitch’, was described by Fazal as partly autobiographical. During the show, she created Muslim parodies of holiday comedy songs, such as ‘The Ramadam Song’. She explores what it is to be Muslim living in America and says that she wanted to show that “the definition of what it is to be Muslim is expanding and it’s okay to be vocal about it”.
She is an award-winning comedian and actress and has won ‘Best Solo Performance Award’ at the Capital Fringe Festival in 2009, and sold out her shows at the New York Fringe Festival in 2010.
Fazal is a passionate supported of the Paani Project, a non-profit that works with community partners in the US and Pakistan to help clean water inaccessibility, advocate gender equality, and address variety of health issues.
