Doorly & Marshall Jefferson's 'Neanderthal' gets visuals | News

House legend Marshall Jefferson teamed up with Doorly this summer to release ‘Neanderthal’ on Dirtybird. Now, the song has a video.

Marshall Jefferson and Doorly’s prehistoric jam ‘Neanderthal’ has been lighting up dancefloors for months, and now the duo has released a brand new video to give it a new lease of life. Watch the video here:

As one of the pioneers of the Chicago house scene, Marshall Jefferson knows a thing or two about house music’s origins. But the story he tells on ‘Neanderthal’ may come as a surprise, even to the most ardent house historians.

As you can see, ‘Neanderthal’ gives a unique take on house music’s prehistoric origins, with Marshall Jefferson tracing the genre back thousands of years to the age of neanderthal cave men.

The story goes that one day a neanderthal male was attracted to a neanderthal female, so he started bashing on a log to impress her. The resulting beat laid the foundations for the house music we know and love today.

Whether you take this tale to be literal or metaphorical, the track ‘Neanderthal’ itself is still a (log) banger, harkening back to the genre’s origins but bringing in a modern bass twist. Magnetic magazine added it to their most recent weekend playlist after the video reminded them of the song’s brilliance.

Book Marshall Jefferson or Doorly to have a house music education of your own.
